In the middle of moving from Singapore to Australia, one of our cats (Shamrock) took a violent autoimmune reaction to one of the vaccinations required prior to being allowed entry into Australia.
Following a consultation with our regular vet it was then decided to leave both our cats behind to allow Shammy time to fully recover before having to undertake the 7 hour flight and the month quarantine that would follow their entry into Australia.
Our vet suggested we contact Petopia to find out if they would be willing and able to take on the care of both Sham and Floyd allowing us to go ahead with the move as planned.
The suggested course of action meant leaving our cats behind in the care of people I didn’t know, which made me feel somewhat apprehensive. However, as we didn’t have many viable options, I contacted Petopia to see if I could view their facilities and meet the people.
As soon as I walked through the door at the offices on Jalan Kelulut my initial apprehension about the whole undertaking was quickly waylaid. In our 20 years of moving internationally with cats, I have never encountered such a facility for animals where there was no hint of animal smell and the standard of cleanliness was quite as high, even with the number of pets present. I instantly took to Richard and Marcus (and the rest of the Petopia staff), who all seemed to care greatly for their charges, and was taken around the facilities and shown where Floyd and Shamrock would be spending most of their time. It was settled!
I felt I could safely leave our beloved cats in the care of Petopia.
During the additional time they had to spend in Singapore (which was about 1 month), I was able to visit Sham & Floyd once and found them quite “unimpressed” when seeing me, which to me was an indication of the love, attention and care they received during their stay. Regular progress reports (and photos) indicated both cats were doing well and no further delays in reuniting the family were encountered.
My husband and I cannot thank all the people at Petopia enough for helping us out when we were at a loss on how to best cope with quite a stressful event (Sham’s illness) during a very hectic period (the move).
Thank you, thank you, thank you – all of you!!!
